Update on the Homestead

After much trial and error, Austyn was able to completely fix the water! It took covering the entire thing in Flex Seal Rubber Sealant Spray from Wal-Mart twice after sealing the top of the pipes with Great Stuff Insulating Spray Foam, but we now have running water inside the camper. It may not be how a plumber would have done it, but it works; we couldn’t be happier. I’ve never been so happy to clean. My dishes are done, the laundry machine is currently running, the counters have been scrubbed, I mopped the floor, and as soon as the stove cools I am scrubbing it down too.

It’s just in time too, since Miss Pickles is pregnant! I don’t know how we went without water for the last two months with our three girls, but we did. It was a combination of great friends and family as well as frequent trips to the store.

The compost toilet project had been postponed temporarily due to us not having a truck yet to haul the plywood, but Austyn was able to have Lowe’s cut the plywood in half to fit it in our little sedan. It took us almost the whole day, but we built our compost toilet Sunday. This marks the first completed building project we’ve done on the homestead.

When we move into our farm house we will be building another compost toilet, hopefully with more knowledge this time on exactly what to do and how to get it all done. We will also probably have a table saw and a couple hobby horses by then to make cutting exact measurements easier. The only tools we had for this build was a leveler, tape measure, drill, and jigsaw.

Still, once sanded down and stained, I think it will look pretty good for two people with no prior furniture building experience.

Thank you for reading and, as always, God Bless!
